11th May 10am - 4pm Spark Day

Hull Afro Caribbean Centre 25/26 Park St, Hull HU2 8RR

(Free entry all Welcome)

  •  Meet the Hull Carnival Arts team and find out how to join the Carnival Crew Volunteer team this summer

  • Presentation of work by Lewis Hunter* (Inspire Urself Caranival Troupe -EMCCAN), and Hull Carnival Arts. A chance to see carnival arts artefacts and costumes up close, and try a costume on in Selfie Corner.

  • Dance and movement taster workshops with Lewis Hunter including a short talk about wearing large costumes and dance tips in costume.

  • Get your groove on and join our Pop-up Carnival Parade with Lewis Hunter and Hull Carnival Arts giant puppets for a finale of the days activities through St. Stephens Shopping Centre TBC. 

*Lewis Hunter (Inspire Urself Carnival Troupe) is an East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN) winning carnival king, regional winner for East Midlands and placed second in Leeds King and Queen Show.

  • Meet the Hull Carnival Arts (HCA) team and find out how to join the Carnival Crew Volunteer team this summer, and see the work of Hull Carnival Arts, opportunities to try on costumes in the Selfie Corner!

  • Presentation of work by Nottingham based Can Samba (12:45-2:15 & 2:30-4:30)

  • A chance to see Carnival Mono-Floats built on mobility scooters up close, have a test drive and move to music in one of Can Sambas special Carnival Mono-Floats (Weather permitting)

Volunteering is a great way to get involved and support Hull Carnival Arts. We have many and varied roles that offer hands on opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers, helping out at our Pop-up Parades across Hull, and behind the scenes making and preparation.

Application deadline is Monday 20th May,

volunteers will be selected on 21st of May.

All selected volunteers will be need to be available for induction and training on the following days,

28th May 10 - 4pm

Initial Induction and carnival make & mend skills


29th May 10 - 4pm

Carnival costume making


30th May 10 - 4pm

Carnival event facilitation


Carnival Crew Volunteers will have a variety of opportunities to get involved with Hull Carnival Arts work across the summer season, at live events and behind the scenes from June 1st - Sept 1st 2019.

Hull Carnival Crew is a project jointly funded by Hull City Arts Development Unit and The Arts Council of England.
